Crimes against Tamils
NEW YORK, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, March 23, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ — US Tamils welcome the US leadership at the UNHRC in their efforts to get accountability for the 146,000 Tamil victims who were massacred by the Sri Lankan genocidal armed forces in 2009.
A Tamil spokesman said “We asked the Trump administration to not give any more extensions to Sri Lanka to probe into the Sri Lankan war crimes and asked the US to put some procedure in place to refer the Sri Lankan war crime to the ICC (International Criminal Court) or relevant tribunal court. If the UNHRC gives any extensions to implement UNHRC resolution 30/1, the Sri Lankans will do nothing. They have already said that they will not support international judges or prosecutors, and will not punish their armed forces. It is impossible for the Tamil victims to get justice from the Sinhala people who killed 146,000 Tamil innocents. The only way the Tamils can get justice is through a credible international justice system.”
If the US and other UNHRC member states give more time to Sri Lanka to probe into the Sri Lankan war crimes, US Tamils ask for the following:
1. To avoid future massacres of Tamils, ask Sri Lanka to sign the treaty of the Roman Statute to protect the Tamils from more killings by the Sinhalese in the future.
2. To protect the Tamils, the US should mediate a political solution that provides a safe and secure homeland for Tamils. A referendum may be the best barometer to ascertain the wishes of the Tamils. No one should force any political solution on the Tamils without their consent. That would bring the war back to Tamil areas. Note that Sri Lanka will never bring in any political changes to protect the Tamils.
3. Remove all Sri Lankan armies from the Tamil areas because they rape our Tamil women, ruin the Tamil economy and carry out disappearances; let the Tamils go to their homes from the interim camp; send all Sinhalese settlers back to their country in the south, as they are destroying the Tamil culture, causing psychological fear in the Tamils, and in fact threatening the Tamils’ very existence in their homeland.
4. If the UNHRC grants an extension, it should have some bench marks. If Sri Lanka fails to implement the UNHRC resolution or any part of it within six months, the UNHRC should refer the case to the ICC through the UN Security Council or through the UN General Assembly by September 2017.
The Tamil spokesman said that the Tamils in Sri Lanka have lost hope with the Tamil leadership, namely Mr. Sampanthan, and are asking the US diaspora to push for the international probe of Sri Lankan war crimes and for the US to mediate a political solution for the Tamils.
Tamils for Trump is a political activist group comprised of Americans; the majority are Tamil Americans. They believe that over 145,000 Tamil civilians living in Sri Lanka were massacred during the last weeks of the Sri Lankan ethnic war. They have also observed post war behaviors of the Sri Lankan Sinhalese victors, and concluded that Tamils in Sri Lanka will only be safe when this war torn island is divided into two individual self-governing nations.
It is of interest to note that , according to UN Internal Review Report on Sri Lanka, around 70,000 Tamil civilians may have been massacred in the last six months of the ethnic war. Also, Rt. Rev. Dr. Rayappu Joseph, the Catholic Bishop of Mannar in Sri Lanka , gave a presentation to the Sri Lankan Lessons Learnt & Reconciliation
